Demolition Derby...

We are slowly but surely getting things completed, which is a good thing since we are running out steam pretty quickly. Longs days of getting up early and working until after the kids go to bed are starting to slow us down. :) But I'm happy to report that we have put a really big dent in our list of things to do.
The biggest thing we've done is the minor remodeling of the kitchen and living room. Remember that ugly TV nook right next to the fireplace? Gone!! Forever! Yay!

My mom and dad came down on Father's Day weekend for an "all-expenses paid working vacation" to help us with some of the big work. Not much of a vacation for them, right? Dad and Aaron filled in that ugly thing and knocked out the wall behind it to make an additional kitchen pantry.

Aaron--starting the demolition

In the Smith tradition, the kids added their names and the date to the drywall before it was sealed off. :)
Almost there!
And after shot of the wall with no UGLY nook. Yay! We painted the wall a great grayish-turquoise color that we LOVE! (It's a little brighter in this photo than in real life.)

New pantry
An almost-organized pantry. Since we have two pantries, I haven't decided exactly how I want the pantries organized.

Both sides of the wall turned out really well! I'm so pleased to have that nook gone and have another pantry in its place. Thanks to my dad and Aaron for their hard work!

  1. Love the blue/grey color! What is it? You have lots of good work still to show your blog readers, I must say. I'm so glad we got to see you in person! It's looking great!

    1. The color is almost "Venus Teal" by Behr. I went with a more turquoise-y color at first but it was WAY too bright. Thankfully the awesome paint guy at Home Depot was able to add the right amount of color to the paint to make it more like what we wanted.
